The final phase of IPL 2025 resumed on May 17 after a one-week suspension due to India-Pakistan tensions. Some overseas players didn’t return, prompting the BCCI to allow temporary replacements, who can’t be retained next season. Several franchises have made short-term signings to fill these gaps for the remainder of the tournament.
Jake Fraser-McGurk – Mustafizur Rahman

Young Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk opted out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to personal reasons, making Delhi Capitals the first team to bring in a temporary replacement.
They signed Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for the rest of the season at a fee of INR 6 crores. Mustafizur, who has played 57 IPL matches and taken 61 wickets, adds experience and depth to the bowling attack.
IPL 2025: Jos Buttler – Kusal Mendis

Gujarat Titans will miss the services of star batter Jos Buttler during the crucial playoff phase, as he will be on national duty for England’s home ODI series against the West Indies.
To fill the void, GT brought in Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis as a temporary replacement for INR 75 lakhs.
Mayank Yadav – William O’Rourke

Indian speedster Mayank Yadav, who already missed the first half of IPL 2025, has been ruled out again—this time due to a back injury.
Lucknow Super Giants have signed New Zealand pacer William O’Rourke as his replacement for INR 3 crores. With LSG struggling with their bowling of late, O’Rourke’s inclusion could provide the much-needed boost.
IPL 2025: Lockie Ferguson – Kyle Jamieson

Punjab Kings pacer Lockie Ferguson was ruled out of the tournament in mid-April after suffering a hamstring injury. The franchise waited before naming a replacement.
Eventually, they signed fellow New Zealander and tall fast bowler Kyle Jamieson, who previously represented RCB in the IPL. PBKS secured his services for INR 2 crores.
Rovman Powell – Shivam Shukla

Kolkata Knight Riders lost their overseas all-rounder Rovman Powell due to health concerns that required surgery on his tonsils.
In response, the defending champions signed Madhya Pradesh’s mystery spinner Shivam Shukla as his replacement for his base price of INR 30 lakhs.
IPL 2025: Lungi Ngidi – Blessing Muzarabani

Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Lungi Ngidi withdrew from the remainder of IPL 2025 to focus on preparations for the ICC World Test Championship Final (2023–25), where South Africa will face Australia at Lord’s in June.
RCB have since roped in Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani as his replacement.
