Rinku Singh’s Match-Winning Knock Justifies Asia Cup Selection

Rinku Singh’s brilliant innings propelled Meerut to third place in the standings and validated his selection for the 2025 Asia Cup. His inclusion raised eyebrows as Washington Sundar was omitted from the squad.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained, β€œSundar has always been in the scheme of things. Currently, we have two mystery/wrist spinners in Varun and Kuldeep, and Axar has been around for a while. When we need four spinners, he may always be in the mix. For now, we felt we needed an extra batter in Rinku. And you could only pick 15. If there were 16, maybe he could’ve been in.”

In the match, Jurel (38) and Akashdeep Nath (23) helped Gorakhpur post 167, while Nishant Kushwaha (37) also contributed. However, Rinku’s masterful innings made the run chase look effortless, single-handedly guiding his team to victory.
